EasyPak, a packaging thermoformer, plans to expand its facility in Massachusetts, US, with a total investment of about $7.5m.
Out of the total investment, EasyPak plans to spend $2m on facility expansion. The remaining $5.5m will be spent in purchasing equipments for the facility.
Established in 2004, the company is currently running three shifts a day with 70 employees. The company said that an expansion would help in creating more room for equipments and create job opportunities for 15 additional staff.
Plastics News quoted EasyPak administrative manager Josie Inman as saying: "We're outsourcing 15% of our production. We can't keep up."
The company plans to complete the expansion in a year's time.
Currently, the company runs seven thermoforming lines and two sheet extruders and plans to add two more thermoformers and another extrusion line to its capacity.
Easypak produces plastic packaging products and provides packaging services from simple single-material clamshell-type deli containers to more complex multi-layer-material MAP containers.
A tax abatement program by the Leominster city council will help EasyPak save around $500,000 over five years. It exports to more than 140, including Canada and the Dominican Republic.
The company also manufactures recycled PET-based packaging and thermoforms in a 20,800 ft2 plant in Leominster. It intends to more than double the space of its facility to 49,400 ft2.
EasyPak will present the project to Massachusetts' Economic Assistance Coordinating Council for its approval on December 17.
