FPG Will Make Major Inroads Into The Field of LED Lighting

Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) will make major inroads into the field of LED (light emitting diode) lighting, as Nan Ya Photonics, under its auspices, will ally with Epistar, Precision Silicon, Formosa Advanced Technologies, and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) in forming the world`s first LED lighting automated production line, which will star mass production in June. Nan Ya Photonics has become the world`s first company with the capability of automated production for 7-watt LED bulb and plans to market the product with own brand. The alliance with Epistar, a leading epitaxy maker, and Precision Silicon will greatly boost its strength for the LED initiative. Wang Wen-chao, chairman of Nan Ya Photonics, pointed out that LED market is going to take off and Taiwan boasts complete LED industrial chain, covering epitaxy, die, assembly, and module. FPG has been engaged in the LED field for many years, via the strategy of cross-field integration and cooperation with the ITRI. Nan Ya Photonics owns 13.39% stake in Precision Silicon and seats on its board of directors. It allies with Epistar , thereby gaining an edge in epitaxy supply and has Formosa Advanced Technology, also an FPG member, undertake rear-end assembly. Via cross-field integration, FPG has established a vertically integrated supply chain for LEG lighting. LED has very high penetration rate in LCD TV but its penetration rate in LED lighting is still very low, promising huge market potential, according to Wang Wen-chao. Wang noted that FPG has prepared sufficient land and capital for the development of LED lighting. In order to bolster its brand, Nan Ya Photonics will require all of its supporting factories to pass UL certification. Wang reported that FPG has possessed the mass-production technology for 7-watt and 10-watt LED bulbs, lighting tube, and cabinet lighting.
