HP has announced a 22mm wide-swath printhead for high-speed, high-resolution marking requirements at Sino-Pack, China.
It is available 1D and 2D bar codes, allowing brands to take advantage of large-size codes and characters for advanced product identification, anti-counterfeiting, and track and trace.
The new 22mm wide-swath printhead, which is produced by HP Specialty Printing Systems with the support of HP thermal inkjet technology, can be incorporated into OEM printing systems and configured to specific applications.
It can be used in a range of stitch-free product coding and marking applications for secondary packaging, including pharmaceutical labels and cartons, secondary box label replacement and variable data printing.
The new printhead features a 775ml ink supply cartridge that can be connected to four printheads at once, helping to meet production requirements.
In addition, the printhead can be used in horizontal and vertical firing positions, providing flexibility to be used in a range of applications.
The printhead, which offers printing speeds up to 150m per minute, can be replaced in minutes without specific operator training.
The company will commercially market the new printhead technology from the second quarter of this year.
HP Scanning Imager-1300 labeling print engine is also showcased at the event. It features advanced color inkjet printer mechanism and provides snap-in/snap-out feature for printhead assembly.
The print engine can be used with HP pigment, dye and approved third-party inks.
HP Specialty Printing Systems general manager Annette Friskopp said: “Product identification is used increasingly in manufacturing and supply chains to help brand owners protect products. Smart barcodes and more data-rich codes require high print quality.
“HP is bringing advanced technology to protect products with the new HP 22mm Printhead and inks. This new, wider printhead offers better image resolution at higher speeds.”
