Registrations for endosulfan products will cease on 12 October 2012, but supply of any product that contains endosulfan is permitted until that date.
SAFEMEAT has advised that the Endosulfan program should operate again for 2011-12. SAFEMEAT is concerned that the need to use up existing stocks of Endosulfan could mean there will be more use this year than in the recent past.
Around 1,117 samples were tested for endosulfan during 2009-2010 with no detections reported. In the 2010-11 season no samples were submitted under the Vendor Declaration program and no residues were detected in 617 fat samples tested under the random program.
In 2011-12 there were no positive results from the 1,100 samples tested. The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry National Residue Survey will test 1,100 random beef samples for pesticide residues again this summer.
