According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in the first quarter of this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 5.6 percent compared to the same period of 2013, totaling $4.18 billion. In the given period, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $651.90 million, down by 1.7 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in March this year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.38 billion, decreasing 11.7 percent year on year and up by 19.4 percent compared to February this year. In the given month, iron and steel ranked fourth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value.

Meanwhile, in March the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, were down 6.8 percent compared to March 2013, but increased by 18.8 percent month on month, amounting to $249.26 million.
