Qualcomm has dropped Mirasol,its colour e-ink display technology,saying it was difficult to manufacture.
Mirasol had the advantage of being readable in bright sunlight.
In 2004,Qualcomm paid$170m for Iridigm which invented the Mirasol technology.Earlier this year it paid about the same again to buy Pixtronix which has a MEMS-based display technology.
About a year ago,Qualcomm cancelled a planned Mirasol-based e-reader.
