Folding cartons, corrugated packaging producer Green Bay Packaging has purchased and installed a new Speedmaster XL 145-7+L printing unit from Heidelberg at its facility in Wisconsin, US.
The very large format (VLF) printing press, featuring Prinect Inpress Control and Prinect Inspection Control solutions is capable of handling both conventional and UV inks and coatings.
The Prinect Inspection Control system is designed to assess each printed sheet for potential errors and material defects while ensuring a reliable finished product.
Green Bay expects the new 57” press, which will run alongside a Speedmaster CD 102-7+L and an existing Speedmaster XL 145 with ultraviolet (UV), to further improve overall productivity of the Wisconsin plant.
Additional features of the press include a 37ft extended delivery system for maximum curing at full speeds across a wide range of substrates.
Green Bay Packaging president and CEO Will Kress said: “The press provides solid performance day in and day out, holds up well to the challenges of the packaging realm and meets the constant demands of our customers.
“Our operators appreciate the ease of operation and intuitive design. With the first XL 145, our business has grown tremendously, so the decision to purchase a second one was easy.”
In 2013, the company provided its first Heidelberg VLF press, an XL 145, for Green Bay Packaging.
Heidelberg US VLF product manager Jim Tillery said: “Since launching the VLF platform, Heidelberg has been dedicated to providing the packaging market with the highest quality printing press to deliver peak performance for more net sheets produced daily, monthly and annually than any other press in the 57” and 64” category.”
Heidelberg said that is VLF platform, which has a speed of up to 18,000 sheets per hour, is designed to serve both the short-run display market as well as the customers in the packaging industry.
