The Bahrain National Museum Has Opened an Exhibition of Russian Textile

The Bahrain National Museum has opened an exhibition of rare and extensive collection of Russian textile artistic products titled ‘Russian Textile: Printed Cotton from Traditional Patterns to Soviet Propaganda Design’.

The exhibition opened by Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, the Minister of Culture of the Kingdom of Bahrain, showcases various forms of Russian textile and cotton fabric from the 18th to 20th centuries, as well as costumes from the 19th to early 20th centuries.

This is the third exhibition in Bahrain which has been held in cooperation with the Museum of Applied and Folk Art in Moscow, with the support of the Museum of Ivanovo Printed Cotton and one of the oldest Moscow printing enterprises, OAO Trekhgornaya Manufactory.

The textile exhibition looks at the independent artistic movements related to cotton printing and manufacturing that was present during the historical development of Russia.

The expo provides an insight into the printed cotton industry of the country which emerged in the late 18th century and was closely associated to hand block printing leading to rapid development of the art form and allowing major cotton printing factories to surface and produce for a mass consumer market.

Mr. Shaikha Mai said the Russian exhibition marks the launch of the Eco Tourism Season in Bahrain, which is being held as a part of the Manama Capital of Arab Tourism 2013.

The Russian artistic textiles are on display at halls 8 and 9 of the national museum, and the exhibition would be open till December 8, 2013.
