Japanese luxury car brand Infiniti has unveiled the EMERG-E hybrid sports car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, marking the global launch of the complete-functional variant.
The new hybrid car is powered by twin electric motors mated to a single speed (XTRAC) transmission, which generates an output of 402bhp (300kW) and allow the model to sprint from 0-60mph in four seconds.
A new three-cylinder 1.2 litre 35kW engine has been designed to be used in extended ranges, which produces the peak power at only 3500rpm.
According to Infiniti, the hybrid can also be used as zero emission urban transport over a 30-mile range.
When the petrol engine functions combined with twin electric motors, it generates 55g/km (NEDC cycle) of CO2 output over a 300-mile range.
UK's Automotive Council chairman, Nissan Group Technology Centre Europe Vehicle Design and Development vice-president Jerry Hardcastle said this is a collaboration of UK companies in order to demonstrate low carbon vehicle potential.
"We took a Lotus Evora platform and together with Lotus we replaced their standard powertrain with a new range-extender electric version, specially developed for EMERG-E," Hardcastle said.
Infiniti has collaborated with the UK government's Technology Strategy Board for the development of EMERG-E and the other partners include TSB and partners Lotus Engineering, NTCE, CGI, EVO and Xtrac among many others.
