The Nurburgring Is up for Sale of $155m

Nurburgring for Sale for $155m: Report

The world’s premier vehicle test track, and long-time racing icon, the Nurburgring in Germany, is up for sale.

Following on from financial difficulties last year related to the racetrack’s two private investors and the European Union, it has now been reported by Nurburgring enthusiast website Bridge to Gantry that the sale of the entire Nurburgring complex has been confirmed by state-appointed liquidator Jens Lieser.

While a rumoured price of around €125 million ($155 million) has been reported, it is still unknown if the complex – an amusement park, hotels and a shopping mall all opened at the track in 2009 – will be sold off in pieces or as a single entity.

There is believed to be five to 10 interested parties looking at purchasing the complex that includes the 20.8km Nordschleife circuit infamously referred to as ‘The Green Hell’ by former racer Sir Jackie Stewart.

Manufacturers from around the world including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Nissan and Porsche regularly tune and develop their cars at the famed facility that winds its way through the Eifel mountains.Hyundaijoined the party at the beginning of the year, announcing it was opening its own $7 million dollar Nurburgring-based test centre.
