The Handlooms and Handicrafts of The Northeast Indian State of Manipur Have Found Demand

The handlooms and handicrafts of the Northeast Indian state of Manipur have found demand in the neighbouring Myanmar, Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited managing director W Nilamani Singh has said.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Singh said the Corporation plans to organize a Crafts Mela cum Cultural Show in Myanmar in October or November this year, in which around 60 members from all districts of the state would be invited to participate.

Mr. Singh said the decision to organize the event in Myanmar has been taken in view of the overwhelming response to the ‘Thematic Exhibition on Handicrafts and Handloom’ organized by the Corporation at Mandalay from February 20-24 this year.

The handloom and handicrafts fair, held in the second-largest city of Myanmar, was a great success and was attended by Consul Generals of India and China, besides a host of local dignitaries.

The participants in the exhibition included 21 Manipuris, who are winners of state and national awards, who set up 35 stalls to showcase their collections, while other 15 participants, who were Manipuris settled in Myanmar, displayed their works at 5 other stalls.
