Omnicell Launches New Suremed Blister Cards

Omnicell has launched an improved adherence blister packaging solution that is said to help patients follow prescribed medication regimens.

The new SureMed by Omnicell blister cards clearly organize multiple medications in an easy-to-follow format that will allow pharmacists to help patients properly manage their medications, the company said.

These new blister cards will be used as an alternative to Omnicell's RxMap and MTS branded blister cards in the near future.

Omnicell's adherence packaging is currently being used by over one million patients to manage their medications both at home and in post-acute care settings.

The usage of multimed blister packaging as part of a comprehensive pharmacy care program resulted in the increase of adherence rates from 61% to 97%.

Hometown Pharmacy community pharmacist and owner Shawn Nairn said: "SureMed takes the notion of the classic pill box and simplifies the adherence process by having the pharmacist pre-sort the medications, and also keeps each patient on track by clearly identifying which meds to take at the appropriate time of day."

Omnicell global markets vice president Joe Lynch said: "For more than 30 years MTS by Omnicell has been providing industry leading medication adherence packaging systems designed to improve medication dispensing and administration.

"The introduction of SureMed continues our commitment to support pharmacists as they strive to increase medication adherence among their patients."

In August last year, Omnicell acquired packaging solutions provider SurgiChem, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bupa Care Homes (CFG).
