Johnson Controls Is Planning to Build Battery Manufacturing Plant in China

Automotive batteries supplier,Johnson Controls is planning to invest $200m in building an automotive battery manufacturing plant in Tianjin, China.

The company is expecting final approval for the project, following the approval, construction on the project is expected to begin between 2012 and the first half of 2013 while production is expected to begin in late 2014.

After completion, the plant will have a capacity to produce about 6 million batteries, including lead-acid starter batteries and advanced batteries for start-stop vehicles per year.

Johnson Controls Power Solutions president Alex Molinaroli said, "We are forecasting 25 million in annual new car sales in China by 2015."

The company is planning to increase its battery production to 30 million units per year in China by 2017.

CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee deputy secretary-general He Lifeng said, "This project will be a great platform to leverage Johnson Controls' leading technologies and expand its investment in China."

Johnson Controls has recently begun the production at its Changxing facility and is planning to launch operations at its Chongqing plant by later 2012.
