UCB and IBM have announced the completion of the initial phase of project designed to exploit super-computer power for better care for epilepsy patients.
The power of cognitive computing capabilities, such as IBM's Watson, will be exploited under the project.
The project will leverage big data and analytics to deliver personalised care for people with epilepsy.
UCB chief medical officer, global projects and development executive vice-president Dr. Iris L?w-Friedrich said UCB recognizes the requirement of collaboration with a diverse group of internal and external experts to deliver best-in-class solutions to patients.
"We have partnered with IBM to explore this concept of streamlining large amounts of data into actionable approaches to epilepsy care," L?w-Friedrich added.
Both the companies are jointly working to create the comprehensive bank of scientific literature and patient data on epilepsy, enabling healthcare professionals across the globe to access the latest information that aids in improved patient care.
The completion of the project will allow healthcare providers to combine own clinical patient assessment with the system's predictive analytics to find the success rates of specific approaches to care.
An open innovation model was adopted by UCB in which internal and external experts collaborate to address unmet needs for people living with severe diseases of the immune system and the central nervous system.
