The government of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu would set up a textile park at Eraiyur village on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway in Perambalur district.   This was disclosed by the District Collector at a special meeting of officials and entrepreneurs, according to The Hindu report.   The Collector Mr. Darez Ahamed explained the infrastructure facility for the proposed textile park to entrepreneurs and discussed the scope for employment generation once the project becomes operational.   The textile park would be an export-oriented facility and the road connectivity would help exporters, Mr. Ahamed said.

Creation of infrastructure for the textile park, like providing power, transport and water facilities, was also discussed in the meeting.   The setting up of textile park in Perambalur district was among the 343 measures announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in December last year.   The new textile park is aimed at increasing the pace of industrialization in Perambalur district.   In 2012-13, Tamil Nadu produced about 500,000 cotton bales of 156 kg each.
