Acuity Brands Participated in a Relight Project with The City of Fountain

Acuity Brands (NYSE: AYI), a market leader in innovative energy-efficient lighting and control solutions, recently participated in a relight project with the City of Fountain, Colorado ("City") using its Holophane® Utility Full Cutoff LED luminaires. The Holophane brand has been a recognized leader in high-quality and lowest total cost of ownership lighting solutions for commercial, industrial, and outdoor applications for over 110 years. "The Holophane Utility Post Top LED Series fixtures reduce energy usage by 30 percent compared to the high pressure sodium system. " Holophane's Utility Full Cutoff LED Luminaires allow designers to create a retro-appearance while complying with local lighting ordinances for reduced sky glow. Full Cutoff (or fully-shielded) is a standard supported by the International Dark-Sky Association ("IDA") to reduce night lighting pollution. The product series includes lantern-style Utility Arlington® , Utility Postop® and Utility Washington Postlite® luminaires, representing the broadest portfolio of zero-uplight post top products in the industry. These luminaires are offered in symmetric and asymmetric distributions with lumen packages from 70-105 watts. Located ten miles from Colorado Springs, the City of Fountain is in close proximity to some of the country's most popular attractions, including Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods. Within this community of nearly 20, 000, Fountain City Hall ("City Hall") is an historic landmark, serving the community with a wealth of city services. Because of City Hall's historical and community significance, officials decided to retrofit the existing 100-watt high pressure sodium lighting system with an energy-efficient solution. The City applied for a matching grant from the Colorado Governor's Energy Office, which stipulated the project had to positively impact public perception and include high-efficiency lighting. The grant was based on installing an LED lighting system, with goals of improving the nighttime appearance of City Hall, reducing energy consumption and complying with dark skies guidelines. Initially, the City installed test fixtures at a local park. Based on the results, they selected the vintage appearance Holophane Utility Post Top LED Series luminaires for City Hall's tree and lawn-lined sidewalks and streets. Mounting the fixtures on existing poles, the City installed them at 12 foot heights along the roadway and sidewalks, increasing light levels and providing the area more uniform illumination. The dark-sky compliant LED luminaires are all controlled by a single photo control and are lit from dusk until dawn. "The Holophane Utility Post Top LED Series fixtures reduce energy usage by 30 percent compared to the high pressure sodium system, " said Scott Trainor, city manager for the City of Fountain. "Everyone agrees the difference in lighting is dramatic, significantly improving the appearance of Fountain's City Hall at night without shining light into the sky. We are pleased with the color rendering of the LED luminaires and their ability to help us reach our sustainability goals while providing an aesthetically pleasing and dark-sky compliant light. We will definitely consider this lighting system for future applications, " Trainor added. Source: www. businesswire. com
