India's Industrial Production Decreased by 0.5 Percent Year on Year

In March this year, India's industrial production decreased by 0.5 percent year on year, according to government data. Industrial production in the financial year 2013-14 ended March 31 decreased by 0.1 year on year.

Production in India's manufacturing sector decreased by 1.2 percent in March compared to the same month of the previous year, while in the full financial year the Indian manufacturing sector saw a 0.8 percent year-on-year drop in output.

The industrial output index in India's basic metal sector in March this year increased by 9.2 percent, while the output index for fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, fell by 11.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the full financial year the output index for basic metals increased by 0.3 percent, while the output index for fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, declined by 7.2 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

On the other hand, the output of the industry segment of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers declined by 14.2 percent year on year in March.
