Argentine May 15-22 Corn Production Totaled 659,138 Mt, up 74%

Argentine May 15-22 corn production totaled 659,138 mt, up 74% from the previous week's 379,025 mt, the Bolsa de Cereales de Buenos Aires said Thursday.

Yields reached 7.2 mt/hectare, down 1% on the previous week, the grains exchange said.

Total corn plantings for the 2013-14 (March-February) crop year totaled 3.57 million hectares, a 3% decline on the previous year.

As much as 33% of total plantings have been harvested as of May 15, compared with 30% the previous week.

Traders cited wet weather over the past three weeks as the most likely cause of the current delays to harvesting.
