Paragon Created New Perforated Packaging for The Co-Operative Food

Packaging supplier Paragon has created new perforated packaging for UK-based retailer The Co-operative Food’s tomato packs to extend their shelf life by up to two days.

The company's packs of own-label vine tomatoes available in 400g will use the new packaging technology, which features smaller perforation holes that control the amount of moisture in the packs and are said to prolong the product life.

According to the company, the holes have been created using 'Modified Moisture Packaging', a computer-guided laser-cut perforation technology.

Paragon worked on creating and placing the perfect number and size of holes strategically to promote shelf life.

Waste & Resources Action Programme (Wrap) director of design and waste prevention Richard Swannell said, "Wrap welcomes this innovation by The Co-operative Food. Food waste is a serious issue, and as our research shows packaging can have a significant role to play in helping reduce unnecessary food waste."
