Banco Mare Nostrum (BMN) sold its 18.34 % stake in the Spanish speciality paper producer Miquel y Costas for €48.2m at the end of June 2013. Spanish media reports indicated that BMN had to part ways with its shareholding because the bank had previously used public funding. BMN's sale of its shares in the paper producer also led to its departure from Miquel y Costas' supervisory board.
