Reid & Taylor, a leading Scottish manufacturer of textiles and a premium menswear brand, has identified China and India as the key markets for British textiles.
In a conversation with fibre2fashion, managing director of Reid & Taylor, Mr. David Oglivie said, "We see India & China as the key markets for the success of Reid & Taylor as well as British textiles and we will be focussing our efforts to grow our business substantially."
Reid and Taylor is already present in the Indian market and the company has recently singed a deal with a leading Chinese clothing firm, Yeliya Group, for the supply of 15,000 square metres of high quality fabrics worth £350,000. The material will be used to make suits for the senior leadership of the Bank of China.
"We hope the contract with the Chinese firm is an important contract for our business and this is the first of many deals we seek to grow our business both in China and in Asia as a whole," Mr. Oglivie informs. According to him, the Chinese market as huge potential for apparel business, especially with the increasing demand for luxurious and prestige fabrics.
With an aim to capture China's £11 billion luxury sector market and grow the value of Scottish exports to the country by 50 percent over the next two years, sixteen designers and textiles firms of Scotland had participated in the China International Clothing and Accessories Fair organized by Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International and Textiles Scotland last month. The Scottish delegation included Scotland's most exciting fashion designers, including award winning Rebecca Torres, Hilary Grant and Iona Crawford as well as established textiles firms such as Johnstons of Elgin, Hawick Cashmere, Eribe and Barrie.
