Taiwan's LED Lighting Output Value in Third-Quarter 2011 Was NT$2.03 Billion

Taiwan's LED lighting output value in third-quarter 2011 was NT$2.03 billion (US$67 million), a 19.4% drop on quarter and 12% decrease on year. Industry sources indicated the price of LED lighting has been falling significantly but shipments have not soared, hence the total output value has been less than expected. The LED output value has been growing continuously every quarter; however, third-quarter 2011 will be the first quarter for LED lighting output value to show signs of a decrease. Industry sources pointed out low demand from US and Europe markets is the main reason for the decline. However, the penetration rate is expected to increase rapidly as many countries have been planning to issue policies to adopt LED lightings. Industry estimates say output value in fourth-quarter 2011 will be US$2.05 billion, a 1% increase compared to the third quarter. Demand in 2011 has been less than expected but continues to show growth. Output value in the LED lighting industry in 2011 has been estimated to reach NT$8.9 billion, representing a 15.6% increase on year. China highlights the potential of the LED lighting industry. Industry sources indicated by 2015, the LED lighting market in China will hopefully reach RMB8.0 billion, and become the third largest market for LED lighting. Industry sources also estimate the global LED lighting output value will reach over RMB400 billion in 2015. In particular, normal lighting will account for 44% of the output value while mobile phone backlights will account for 23%. Landscape lighting will account for 15%, displays to account for 6%, street signal lights 2%, and lighting for automobiles to account for 3%. Other applications will likely account for 7%.
