Yo You dairy company, owned by the Ningbo Group in China, is planning to build a milk processing plant in Bass Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia.
The company plans to increase its herd size almost twice and export over 10,000 liters of fresh milk each day to China, reports abc.net.au.
GHD, a professional services company, will manage the permit application on behalf of Ningbo.
Commenting on the proposed development, GHD manager Jon McNought was quoted by abc.net.au as saying: "A lot of companies have been looking at sourcing dairy products from outside China and Australia is a very attractive proposition for that."
Australia's free trade agreement with China has paced up investment in agribusiness, added McNought.
Bass Coast Shire chief executive Paul Buckley was quoted as saying by the publicaion: "Agriculture is a key component of our economy down here but we want to make sure we get the right developments into the municipality and to make sure that a proposal like this ticks all the boxes in terms of sustainability."
