The Volume of LED Lighting in The World Will Increase in 2012

The volume of LED lighting in the world will increase in 2012, Epistar chairman Lee Biing-jye has said. Epistar's 2012 revenues are likely to show growth and reach NT$20 billion (US$668 million). Lee expects LED lighting penetration rate to reach 7.5% in 2012 from 5% in 2011. Lee pointed out the output value of the LED lighting industry will reach US$5-6 billion in 2015, about 50% of the total output value of the lighting market. However, prices of LED lighting such as retrofit LED light bulbs are still relatively high. The LED TV market has been performing below expectations. Lee noted that the target penetration rate for 2012 is 60%. From the current market conditions, the penetration rate at end of the year needs to reach 70-80% in order to achieve that goal.
