M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which makes semiconductors, components and subassemblies for, RF, microwave, millimeter-wave and photonic applications) has introduced a high-linearity 4W power amplifier, operating over frequencies of 29-31GHz and suited to Ka-band high-data-density satellite communications.
The MAAP-011139 is offered in both bare die format and a 5mm x 5mm 32-lead QFN package. The device delivers 24dB of linear gain, 4W of saturated output power and 23% power-added efficiency. With gain of 24dB, the device provides output power (Pout) of 36.5dBm (greater than 27dBm Pout/tone) while maintaining IM3 (3rd-order inter-modulation) levels of 30dBc (reckoned to be twice the linear performance of competing alternatives). This two-times linearity performance allows the MAAP-011139 to replace two equivalent competing alternatives with a single device while operating in an overall more efficient mode, says MACOM. Furthermore, the device measures 3.1mm x 2.8mm x 0.05mm in bare die format, suiting real-estate-constrained users. Input and output return losses are 10dB.
“The MAAP-011139 sets a new industry benchmark for linear power performance at Ka-band frequencies,” claims product manager Paul Beasly. “In combination with MACOM’s comprehensive mm-wave Ka-band product portfolio, we can provide customers with a complete chip-set solution that we believe enables the best performance, value and ease-of-use,” he adds.
MACOM enables the connections that ensure high data-density network performance from L-Band to Ka-Band. For over 60 years, we’ve serviced the most demanding military and commercial applications on the ground, in the air or at sea. Our analog RF, microwave and millimeter wave innovations optimize wireless bandwidth for clear, uninterrupted signals across even remote locations.
Production quantities and samples of MAAP-011139 in both bare die and packaged versions are available from stock.
