The exterior of the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been completely uncovered by CarAdvice’s spy photographers who captured it during an official photo shoot in Europe.
The images come almost two months out from the scheduled unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in May, and appear on the same day that the premium German manufacturer released official images of the luxury limousine’s lavish interior.
The sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan is set to reach Australian showrooms around the end of 2013, following its mid-year European launch.
As the images reveal, the new S-Class draws inspiration from the dramatic Mercedes-Benz F700 concept of 2008, and shares cues from the latest evolution of the brand’s design language with the updated E-Class.
A broad four-slat chrome grille dominates the front end. It sits proudly at the edge of a smooth bonnet, flanked by elegant LED-bedazzled headlights and above a contoured bumper with subtly aggressive intakes.
An equally striking set of blazing red LED tail-lights defines the rear end of the new S-Class, with the sweeping lines of the rear pillars and boot adding a newfound sense of motion and the intricate chrome detailing around the tailpipes enhancing the luxury saloon’s sporting flair.
While retaining a similar profile to the outgoing model, the new S-Class trades its bulbous wheel arches for tighter, more streamlined flares. Twin character lines running between the arches add greater definition to the side panels.Cross-drilled brake rotors are also visible in the side-on shots.
The new S-Class will showcase a host of new safety features and other technologies, including an evolution of the company’s PreSafe collision avoidance technology with 26 sensors and cameras and 360-degree vision capability, adaptive cruise control with steering assistance at speeds between 0-200km/h, world-first bulb-less LED headlamps and an equally innovative underbody ‘braking’ airbag.
The covers will come off the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a special event in Hamburg, Germany, on May 15.
