South African packaging company Nampak Flexible has invested in a seven layer co-ex film extruder as well as a laser scoring machine.
The new Windm?ller & H?lscher seven-layer co-ex machine can use high barrier film which is environmentally friendly.
The film is recyclable compared to the existing multi-layered barrier structures. Besides, its gauge can be optimized to provide better packaging.
Nampak also invested in a Micro Laser Perforation System, which allows for easy opening of pouches, stick-packs and sachets.
With a hole diameter from 50μm ->-300μm, the system can puncture up to 1.000.000 holes/second and ensures a non-contact processing tool with less thermal influence on the film.
Nampak Flexible managing director Clinton Farndell said, "These two investments by Nampak Flexible in new technology, open up huge possibilities within the flexible packaging industry in South Africa and ensure opportunities for growth across Africa."
