A new customized, integrated flexo printing solution has been introduced by Denmark-based flexo technology provider TRESU for the detergent industry which will help it to comply with a new European safety directive.
The new safety directive mandates all detergent manufacturers to place warning messages on all individual capsules, reports Packaging Today.
Easily integrable into a water-soluble detergent pouch filling and converting line, the new TRESU F10 iCon solution has been developed in collaboration with a large global consumer goods manufacturer.
The multi-colour solution is servo-driven and is housed within a space-saving printing module before the pouch-filling stage.
Operator-friendly, it is designed to offer fully automated ink flow and job setup, making it suitable for operation without in-house flexo experience. Its ink supply system constantly feeds the printing units, maintaining optimum viscosity, temperature and pressure.
The company adds that sealed, pressure-controlled chambered doctor blade systems further enable direct, foam-free transfer of ink or coating to the anilox rollers, ensuring a consistently clean printed image.
For subsequent pouch filling process, TRESU Solutions has optimised the unit to operate at only 10m/s, while a register module after the printing stations maintains precise positioning of fine text automatically to reduce manual intervention.
The solution also features a control system that stores and instantly recalls job recipes for repeat jobs to do away with the re-entry of ink and calibration data.
As cited in Packaging today, TRESU Solutions sales director Allan Sander said: "The resulting solution will ensure brand owners can meet the new safety regulations, promote consumer protection and maintain seamless, uninterrupted single-pass production with no extra handling required."
The European safety ruling came in the wake of numerous instances of injuries suffered by children as a result of ingestion of brightly coloured capsules used in washing machines or dishwashers, mistaking them for sweets.
Sander added: "Following the beta-testing of a machine at the customer's locations in Europe TRESU Solutions has supplied the customer with a further two digit number of machines. We have been able to develop a global solution within a short time frame, despite heavy demands on process technology."
