Five Firms Have Came to Form a Non Profit Consortium to Create Standard Architecture

The HSA Foundation is established to define and promote an open, standards-based approach to heterogeneous computing

Technology firms AMD, ARM, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek and Texas Instruments (TI) have came together to form a non profit consortium, Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) Foundation to create a unified, open industry standard architecture for Heterogeneous Processors.

HSA Foundation will define and promote an open, standards-based approach to heterogeneous computing which will provide a common hardware specification to make it easier for software developers to create new applications to take advantage of modern processors.

The companies will work together to drive a single architecture specification and simplify the programming model to help software developers take advantage of the capabilities found in modern central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs).

By standardising the heterogeneous programming model, developers can now develop new software that is designed to take advantage heterogeneous (also known as "hybrid") processor market.

The HSA Foundation will deliver new software capabilities, from enabling enhanced user experiences to improving cloud-based data management, streaming, and security.

Members of the HSA Foundation plan to deliver robust development applications for heterogeneous compute to drive new content and applications with developer tools, software developer kits (SDKs), libraries, documentation, training, support.

In addition to the founding members, contributor and supporting-level members will assist with research, development, production, manufacture, use, and the sale of HSA and heterogeneous computing software.
