Cargill Is Set to Expand Its Elva Grain Facility in Southwestern Manitoba

American agribusiness company Cargill is set to expand its Elva grain facility in southwestern Manitoba, Canada for an undisclosed amount as a part of its efforts to cater to the increasing demand.

The expansion, which is set begin by the end of August 2012 and expected to be completed for harvest 2013, will include increasing storage capacity from the current 14,500 metric tons to 24,500 metric tons and rail car handling capacity from 56 cars to 112.

The facility primarily handles wheat, canola, barley and oats.

Cargill said that during the construction customers will have access to the facility and can deliver the grain.

Cargill farm service group manager Sheldon Spearman said that the move is a part of the company's strategy to expand in the southwest region of the province.

"This decision comes from Cargill's commitment to helping growers prosper by improving access to services for farmers in southwestern Manitoba and southeastern Saskatchewan," Spearman added.
