UK’s biscuit brand McVitie’s manufacturer United Biscuits has partnered with recycling company TerraCycle for the launch of the McVitie’s Biscuit Wrapper Brigade.
United Biscuits said the recycling fundraising scheme, which is open to every biscuit consumer across the UK, provides them a recycling solution that saves used biscuit wrappers from landfill. In the UK, 487,000t of biscuits were sold over the last 12 months.
The new scheme aims at encouraging consumers to help end the enormous waste of resources by sending in any brand of used biscuit wrappers to be recycled into everyday products such as watering cans, garden benches and waste bins.
According to United Biscuits, the McVitie's Biscuit Wrapper Brigade launched by McVitie's and TerraCycle together is open to consumers across the UK who can get involved for free at www.terracycle.co.uk.
The consumers can register and download pre-paid Royal Mail labels which means sending in old wrappers is completely free.
