The Canadian Food Inspection Agency(CFIA)has expanded the recall of Sliced Crimini Mushrooms produced by Champ's Mushrooms to include additional products.The products are being recalled as they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The latest recall affects Champ's Mushrooms brand Sliced White Mushrooms,Product of Canada,is sold in 227 g(8 oz.)packages.The package bears the UPC 0 33383 67600 5 and the packed on date written as,"PO 10AUG2012"or PO 11AUG2012.
The earlier recalls affected products bearing the UPC 6 78286 88877 5 and the'packed on'date written as,PO 10AUG2012.
This product has been distributed in British Columbia.There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
The manufacturer,Champ's Mushrooms,based in Aldergrove,British Columbia,is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace,while the CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may cause listeriosis,a foodborne illness,which can lead to high fever,severe headache,neck stiffness and nausea.Pregnant women,the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of this illness.
