GE Have Unveiled The First Wind-Powered Electric Vehicle Chargerin in Spain

General Electric (GE) in collaboration with renewable energy firm Urban Green Energy (UGE) have unveiled the first wind-powered electric vehicle charger, Sanya Skypump, in Barcelona, Spain.

The new 15ft tall EV charger incorporates UGE's 4kW vertical axis wind turbines with GE's EV charging technology, which will allow EVs to charge up through zero emission electricity.

Sanya Skypump supplies power through a GE DuraStation EV charger, which allows faster charging by the use of higher voltages.

When the system is not in use, the 4K turbine will deliver back energy to the grid and further boosting the local grid with renewable energy.

According to GE, the new system is part of the company's aim to offer drivers and commercial clients with an easy solution for charging their EVs.

The collaboration is also aimed at unveiling more chargers during late 2012 in the US and Australia.
