Apple could launch an iPhone 8 with a 5-inch display next year, according to reports on Monday.
Nikkei says the company will release the intermediary size to accompany the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus.
The move would represent a mild surprise given a 4.0-inch iPhone 8 - a la the iPhone SE - would likely be preferred by Apple’s traditional customer base.
Elsewhere, the Nikkei report claimed Apple is still “tentative” over whether the iPhone 8 will boast the heavily-rumoured glass back.
That design was last seen on the iPhone 4S.
However, Apple could still maintain the current metal-backed design, according to the sources.
The ‘person familiar with the matter’ pointed out a recent instance of flip-flopping when Apple decided to drop the release of a single-lens iPhone 7 Plus months before it was due.
Should Apple opt for the glass front and back, it is believed the components will be supplied by the companies Biel and Lens.
The iPhone 8 is likely to be the first major iPhone redesign since 2014, with the iPhone 6S and 7 sticking to the formula debuted by the iPhone 6.
