AIHA Has Released The Japanese Translation of IHSTAT

The American Industrial Hygiene Association® (AIHA) has released the Japanese translation of IHSTAT, a data interpretation statistical package that computes descriptive statistics, determines if the distributions are normal or log normally distributed, and calculates associated confidence limits on the mean and the tolerance limits of the distribution.

The new Japanese translation is the product of collaboration between the AIHA Exposure Assessment Strategies Committee (EASC) and Haruo Hashimoto, CIH, an AIHA member and industrial hygiene manager at EMG Marketing G.K. in Tokyo, Japan.

"The release of the Japanese language version of IHSTAT is an example of how the AIHA Exposure Assessment Strategies Committee strives to expand the access of its professional level exposure assessment tools to IH practitioners around the world," said James H. Stewart, PhD, CIH, CSP, chair of the AIHA EASC and a principal scientist and director of the Building Science and Forensics Division at Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc., in Needham, Mass.

"Now that a fifteenth language has been added to IHSTAT, industrial hygienists in training and veterans of the profession, who engage in occupational exposure assessment work, will continue to benefit by having an easy-to-use implementation of mathematical modeling and analysis methods," added Daniel Drolet, MSc, a member of the AIHA EASC and a chemist with the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) in Quebec.

IHSTAT is a flexible spreadsheet that implements many basic modeling and statistical analysis algorithms and helps industrial hygienists use modeling and statistical analysis in exposure assessments. The spreadsheet provides for a transparent understanding of each algorithm's function, parameters and results.
