Johnson Matthey announced on 28 March that, due to the “continued downturn in the LED and semiconductor markets”, it has decided to exit the gas purification market.
The decision relates to gas purification for bulk gases using palladium membrane, heated getter or regenerable catalytic purifying technology. The result will be the closure of the firm’s manufacturing facility in West Chester, PA, USA. As a consequence, it will begin to wind down operations at its Gas Purification Technology (GPT) business with immediate effect.
Johnson Matthey assures customers that it continues to stand behind its warranty obligations for previously purchased products.
Power+Energy Inc (P+E) of Ivyland, PA, USA, which provides palladium-membrane-based hydrogen purifiers for the compound semiconductor and energy industries, says that it has responded to support these customers and to provide its palladium membrane purifiers for metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) applications, offering direct replacements for many Johnson Matthey models. “With our broad range of purifiers for low, medium and high flow rates, we can support any customer anywhere in the world,” reckons Stuart Bestrom, P+E's director of global sales. “Our worldwide distributor network is already providing sales and service support for customers in need of immediate help.”
