The Ford Fiesta ST has been put through its paces around the iconic Track 7 at the company’s Lommel Proving Grounds in Belgium.
The go-fast variant of the Ford Fiesta city car was pushed around the 4.3km, 20-curve circuit by David Put, a Ford vehicle dynamics specialist and a Blue Oval employee of 17 years.
Powered by a 132kW/240Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, the Ford Fiesta ST is the quickest model in the front-wheel-drive hatchback’s 37-year history, accelerating from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds and continuing on to a top speed of 220km/h.
With its sights set on the likes of the Volkswagen Polo GTI, Opel Corsa OPC and Suzuki Swift Sport, the Fiesta ST is expected to wear a high-$20,000s price tag when it arrives on our shores exclusively as a three-door model towards the end of 2013.
