Fusion Label to Check Counterfeits Is Unveiled by Silk Mark India

In view of wide-spread adulteration in silk products, Central Silk Board unveiled new Silk Mark India Fusion Label to the international community assembled for the International Sericulture Commission (ISC) Conference held at New Delhi.

“Silk Mark India is a purity label meant for consumer protection and check counterfeits. As the name suggests, the new label is fused in the fabric and can’t be detached”, said Ms Ishita Roy, Member Secretary Central Silk Board and new Secretary General of Global Silk Body, International Sericulture Commission.

The new Silk Mark India label was unveiled by Ms Zohra Chatterji, Secretary Textiles and Mr Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs at New Delhi while virtually inaugurating the head quarters of ISC at Bangalore.

“The label, first of its kind in the world enjoys exclusive patented technology against counterfeiting. Once affixed, the label becomes part of the fabric. Label is temper-proof as it uses nano-technology and can withstand several washes”, Ms Roy added.

The new Silk Mark India labels are eco-friendly and non-carcinogenic. The labels also have ‘Track and Trace’ features through online or sms.

Government of India will launch an awareness drive to promote the usage of fusion label and weavers’ training for incorporation of new label has started.
