Electric Vehicles International (EVI), a provider of alternative fuel vehicle development, manufacturing and deployment, has launch a new electric vehicle program with Frito-Lay North America.

EVI's all-electric powertrain is integrated into the Daimler Freightliner M2 business class chassis that provides customers with fuel and maintenance savings.

The all-electric EVI Medium Duty (EVI-MD) is a class 6 EV on the market, increasing a 90-mile range, top speed of 65 miles per hour and a 99 kWh lithium phosphate battery system from Valence Technology (VLNC).

Upon completion of the test of the EVI-MD on a delivery route in Alameda, California, Frito-Lay has committed to buy five additional EVI-MD vehicles to be used in Northern California.

EVI vice president of sales and marketing Frank Jenkins said that the company is excited to work with Frito-Lay on expanding their fleet of EVs.

Frito-Lay North America senior director of fleet capability Mike O'Connell said that the company and its parent PepsiCo are regularly evaluating new technologies to improve the performance of the fleet, while also trying to minimize the environmental impact.

"The EVI electric vehicles give Frito-Lay another promising option to help meet our long term goal of being the greenest fleet in North America," O'Connell said.
