Polish Plastic Packaging Market Was Worth an Estimated 2.3bn in 2011

Polish plastic packaging market was worth an estimated 2.3bn in 2011, up some 9.5% over 2.1bn a year earlier, according to a recent report released by Management Consulting Partners, an Austrian consultancy. Moreover, these figures represent a threefold increase over 2002, when the country’s plastic packaging market was worth only about 750m. “Plastic packaging is the dominating sector of the Polish packaging industry,” the report said, adding that, last year, Poland-based manufacturers accounted for about 5% of the European packaging production. According to analysts from Management Consulting Partners, plastic packaging is the most rapidly growing segment of the Polish packaging market, with a 36% share of total domestic sales. Over the past few years, the growth rates of the plastic packaging market have been significantly higher in Poland than in a vast majority of western European countries, as shown by the report. However, the report states that the Polish plastic packaging industry is also “highly fragmented and competitive”. The largest market players in Poland are Austrian packaging manufacturers Greiner and Alpla and pan-European packaging group Paccor. Analysts say that the Polish packaging market is still far from reaching its saturation point. Presently, the country’s packaging consumption per capita is 157, compared with the European average of 320, according to the Austrian consultancy. Set up in 2007, Management Consulting Partners is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The company has three regional offices in Düsseldorf, Germany, Kraków, Poland and Zagreb, Croatia.
