Closure Notices Is Gained by 300 Textile Units in India's Erode

Following receipt of complaints regarding emission of effluents in water bodies, 300 textile dyeing units operational in Erode, a district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, have been served with closure notices by the district administration, Business Line reported quoting PTI.  

Farmers representing several associations had called on the district administration to take severe steps against the polluters, particularly against the tanners and dyers who were discharging the untreated waste of their units in water bodies, mainly into the Kalingarayan canal and Cauvery River.  

R Ganesh, the District Revenue Officer said, on receipt of complaints about emission of effluents in rivers and canals, he has issued closure orders to 100 textile dyeing industries and 200 textile bleaching industries in Erode.  

Earlier too, the Erode district administration had closed over 150 textile dyeing and bleaching units operating without due authorization or licences, he added.
