Vietnam's Steel Imports Rose 26.1 Percent Year on Year to 7.98 Million Metric Tons

In the first 10 months this year, Vietnam's steel imports rose 26.1 percent year on year to 7.98 million metric tons, including 322,190 metric tons of billet imports, down 16 percent year on year, according to statistics issued by Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade. Meanwhile, in October this year country's steel imports totaled 917,550 metric tons, increasing by 26.1 percent year on year and by 16.9 percent month on month, while billet imports were down 49.8 percent year on year and up 13.6 percent month on month, amounting 25,000 metric tons.

On the other hand, in the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam's scrap imports increased by a slight margin of 0.6 percent to 2.78 million metric tons, compared to the same period of previous year. In October this year, Vietnam imported 304,270 metric tons of scrap, 24.8 percent more than in the previous month and 16.2 percent less than in October 2012.

In the January-October period this year, Vietnam's iron and steel exports increased by 19.2 percent year on year to 1.81 million metric tons, while in October the country's iron and steel exports totaled 171,720 metric tons, decreasing by 15.8 percent year on year and by 12.4 percent compared to the previous month.
