Taiwan-based crystalline silicon solar cell makers, in response to demand from clients in Japan and the US, have stepped into production of PERC (passivated emitter and rear cell) monocrystalline solar cells, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
These makers include Neo Solar Power, Motech Industries, Gintech Energy, Solartech Energy, Tainergy Tech and E-Ton Solar Tech, the sources noted.
Production cost and energy conversion rates for PERC monocrystalline solar cells vary among these Taiwan-based makers, with the latter ranging from 19.8% to 20.3%, the sources indicated, adding quotes for PERC monocrystalline solar cells stand at US$0.50-0.56/W.
In comparison, energy conversion rates for P-type monocrystalline solar cells are 18.4-18.8% and prices stand at US$0.46-0.47/W, the sources indicated. PERC monocrystalline solar cells are superior to P-type models in energy conversion rate but are more expensive, the sources noted.
