India-based Vaishno Devi Dairy Products plans to invest INR1.05bn ($17.65m) to expand its milk processing capacity three times by 2014-15.

The project includes expansion of processing capacity at the company's existing facility near Pune from the current 300,000 liters per day to 800,000 liters per day, with an investment of INR250m ($4.2m).

Vaishno Devi Dairy Products chairman and managing director Nandkishor Attal said that the company is also planning to establish new milk processing plants in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR800m ($13.4m).

Earlier this week, the company launched its cow milk-based ghee Shubhi and stated that the expansion will triple its ghee producing capacity to 900 tons per month.

Vaishno Devi Dairy further plans to launch paneer (cottage cheese), curd and other milk products in Maharashtra.
