Infinera Announced The Completion of Its First Ultra-Long-Haul Lab Trial in Russia

Infinera Corp of Sunnyvale, CA, USA, a vertically integrated manufacturer of digital optical network systems incorporating its own indium phosphide-based photonic integrated circuits (PICs), has announced the completion of its first ultra-long-haul lab trial in Russia with FSUE ZNIIS, Russia’s Central Science and Research Telecommunications Institute.

The DTN-X trial, which demonstrated 8 Terabits per second (Tb/s) of DWDM capacity across 1,175 kilometers, took place at ZNIIS’ Techno Park in Moscow. The network configuration provided flexible service add/drop and non-blocking OTN-switching capabilities and enabled a variety of different types of traffic demands including high speed 100 Gigabit Ethernet services (Gb/E), 40 Gb/E as well as widely used 10 Gb/E and 10 Gb/s SDH services, says the firm. The trial was based on Infinera’s DTN-X platform, using 500 Gb/s super-channels and integrated non-blocking OTN-switching.

“We are impressed by Infinera and the DTN-X solution, especially by its ability to quickly deploy and launch a DWDM line to demonstrate long-haul transmission,” said Svetlana Yarlykova, scientific director at FSUE ZNIIS. “The equipment was easy to operate. We are confident that Russian service providers will see the value in Infinera’s next generation solution, offering an architecture that’s simple and reliable due to photonic integration.”
