Philips has signed a contract to supply lighting equipement for a new hospital in Jordan, the first healthcare facility in the country to be certified with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
Farah Medical Complex in Amman, Jordan, has asked Philips to provide 20 Ambient 'experience rooms', making this the largest installation of its type in any hospital worldwide.
Philips Ambient Experience uses light, image and sound to create a relaxing environment for patients undergoing imaging screening. The company said this would allow it to research further into the positive impacts of ambient lighting on patients and clinicians.
LEED is a rating system created by the United States Green Building Council and is widely accepted as the international standard for green building certification.
Founder and director of Farah Hospital, Jordan, Zaid Kilani, said, "We are delighted to be working with Philips to fulfil our vision of creating a state-of-the-art hospital which not only offers access to advanced technologies, but is also designed to provide an environment uniquely conducive to patients' health and wellbeing."
Philips LEDs will feature in the entryways, corridors and patient rooms using a combination of functional and decorative lighting, including Lumistone, a flexible LED luminaire and the architectural PowerCore low energy white light solution which will light the building façade.
