The weather should be favorable for the production of soybeans in the center-west of Brazil in 2014/2015 season as well as for growing the second crop. But, in the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, corn and soybean growers should be cautious with the variation of rains and weather patterns, according to meteorologist Marco Antonio dos Santos of Brazil's weather service Somar Metereologia.
"This crop season will be no different than the last two seasons because there will be an irregularity of rainfalls, mostly during spring, which is to say during planting", explained Santos during a lecture to Mato Grosso farmers at MT Foundation. Soybean planting in the center-west of Brazil starts in the end of September, when spring starts in the Southern Hemisphere.
Santos also said that there farmers in this region of Brazil could potentially see a strong proliferation of pests and caterpillars. "El Nio will have a weaker intensity in the period. Even so, it could delay planting and bring the necessity of replanting", pointed out.
Stronger rains in Mato Grosso are expected just for October and mostly during the afternoons or nights, which favors the development of grains. In the south of Brazil, the situation is expected to be even brighter, specifically for the state of Paraná.
Simepar, a meteorological institute of the Federal University of Paraná, forecasts the start of planting very favored by the abundance of rains. "Just northern Paraná will have less rains", Simepar's meteorologist Ana Beatriz Porto told Reuters.
