Asus Launches Powerhouse Gaming Laptop with Nvidia's 1080 GPU Inside

Asus has launched a new – and seriously powerful – version of the G701 gaming laptop.

The new Asus ROG G701VI is the latest effort of Asus’ gaming spin-off brand, Republic of Gamers. The beefy laptop comes packing Nvidia’s new flagship GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card, which means it should be VR ready (and then some). It’s also got a 6th-gen quad-core Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, and a whopping 64GB of 2,400MHz DDR4 memory.

Other features include a 1TB of storage (512GB x 2 in a RAID 0 configuration), and a large 17.3-inch Full HD PLS LED display. Better still, the laptop’s screen has a lofty 120Hz refresh rate, and even supports Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, which means screen tearing should be at a minimum.

As this is a notebook, the ROG G701 features a large, backlit keyboard with anti-ghosting technology. There’s also an ESS Sabre ES9018K2M Hi-Fi DAC, as well as HDMI 2.0, USB 3.1 Type-C, and mini-DisplayPort ports.

And Asus is also throwing in its new ROG Gaming Centre as bundled software, which will let you set up macros and gameplay recording via dedicated hotkeys.

All this is packed into a (forgivably) thick chassis that measures 32.5mm – that’s still two-thirds of the thickness of a G752, mind. But it’s a far cry from the svelte 22.5mm chassis of the Razer Blade Pro, which also happens to feature a GTX 1080 desktop graphics card.

The bad news is that we’re entirely sure what the pricing or availability will be like, so we can’t guarantee this will ever make it to the UK.
