Taiwan panel makers' large-size (9-inch and above) panel shipments reached 66.89 million units in the second quarter of 2013, up 15.6% on quarter but down 1.5% on year, according to Digitimes Research.
The makers' LCD TV panel shipments were up 6.3% on quarter, lower than the global average of 9%, largely due to the makers' decisions to reduce 32-inch panel production, said Digitimes Research.
Digitimes Research also said the makers' notebook and monitor panel shipments were up over 18% on quarter during the second quarter largely due to orders from Korea- and China-based panel makers, which allocated less production to large-size panels during the period and instead were focused on small- to medium-size panel production.
The makers' shipments of tablet panels sized 9-inch and above also rose significantly in the second quarter due to demand from second-tier and white-box vendors, giving the makers a 21% global market share in the segment.
