British automotive manufacturer McLaren Automotive has unveiled the new X-1 concept sports car at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event in the US.
The new sports concept is based on the carmaker's earlier 12C model and is expected to be powered by a 3.8litre V8 twin turbo engine mated to a 7 Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission, which allows the concept to generate 616hp output and 600Nm torque.
According to the carmaker, the development of new 1400kg concept involved computational fluid dynamics (CFD) aerodynamic and 625 miles of testing, including two intensive stints, following which the sports concept was rebuilt to concours standard.
By the middle of the decade, the British carmaker is planning to produce 4,000 sports cars per annum at its new manufacturing facility, the McLaren Production Centre, in Surrey, UK.
